Overview

The Job Link-Up programme targets young people between the ages of 15-25 years, who are unemployed or considered “at risk” of being unemployed due to particular socio-economic factors.


Within the framework of this programme, “at risk” refers to those young persons who experience difficulty in finding a job due to a combination of the socio-economic, “hindering” or “risk” factors:

  1. Non-completion of high school;
  2. Personal disability;
  3. Current or past health and or substance abuse-related problems;
  4. single parenthood;
  5. Low levels of literacy and/or numeracy
  1. Speaks English as a second language
  2. History of judicial problems, probation, child welfare or social assistance systems;
  3. Homelessness, or at-risk of becoming homeless;
  4. Inadequate social supports (family, friends or community support);
  5. Poor self and/or behaviour-management.
Programme Details

Main Strategies

  1. Behavioural and Career Counselling
  2. Continuing Education and Training
  3. Job Placements (six months, private sector)
  4. Mentorship
  5. Professional and Personal Development Coaching

Eligibility

  1. Belonger/Resident of Anguilla
  2. ‘At-risk’ of being unemployed (following secondary education) and remaining unemployed for an extended period
  3. Demonstrates willingness to commit to the completion of the programme; and
  4. Demonstrate a willingness to positively adjust his/her lifestyle.

Accomplishments

  1. Established in 2007
  2. Total number of clients 270
  3. Programme retention rate 80+%
  4. The highest percentage of clients retaining positions on completion of the programme – 83%
