Our Anti-Violence Strategy

1. Prevention
  • Early identification and management of learning difficulties.
  • Early identification of speech, sight and hearing difficulties and treatment
  • Early identification and treatment of emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Behaviour management (conflict resolution, anger, self-control). One-on-One support.
  • Community service mandated as part of the school curriculum
  • Mandatory after school programmes
  • Utilisation of PSHE and Health and Family Life Education courses to promote a strong
    nationalistic spirit.
  • Homework support (via Community Centres/ initiatives)
  • Mentoring programme (schools)
  • Coaches for sports; upgrading of sporting facilities
  • Promotion of Healthy lifestyles
  • Transitional Activities (Primary to secondary education)
  • Anguilla GET SET Entrepreneurial Programme
  • Anguilla Service Corps (mentors and volunteers)
2. Intervention
  • Improve facilities at the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and the Workshop Initiative for Support in Education (WISE)
  • Ongoing training of personnel to work with at-risk youth at the PRU and WISE
  • Reintegration plans for students at the PRU
  • Certification of programmes at the PRU and WISE
  • Implementation of ideas coming out of PAVE community consultations

4. Rehabilitation
  • Establishment of a Drug Rehabilitation Centre
  • Rehab Programme for perpetrators of Violent crimes
  • Expunging criminal records after a number of years

  • Employment linkages, opportunities to be provided post-prison
  • Reintegration plan for residents of Zenaida Haven
  • Expand Zenaida to accommodate female offenders
